Kitchen Furniture: Choose & Plan Wisely
By: Kim Meehan on Mon Apr 27, 2009
You may not feel that kitchen furniture is a major issue, but the pieces that you choose for your kitchen can make or break your entire decor in this room. With just a few tips you can choose the pieces that will completely turn your kitchen into a dream and impress even the most sarcastic visitors. First, keep in mind that your cabinets fall into this category. You should ensure that you have plenty of space so that you do not feel cramped. Be sure that your cabinets will reach to the ceiling, which will give you much more room for storage and allow you to keep your countertops cleaned off.

Kitchen islands should also be considered when you are choosing your kitchen furniture. If you have room, an island makes an excellent center point for the room, while also giving you more storage space. If you do not have room for an island, you can still dress up the room with a small table and chairs. A wooden country table with two high-back chairs makes an excellent substitute for an island for smaller rooms. You could also consider forgoing the table and chairs and adding an island with stools on one side. This will give you a sitting place for your morning coffee, while still adding a bit of elegance to your overall decor.

If you are planning to incorporate a table as part of your kitchen furniture, be sure that you choose one that will fit comfortably without taking up too much space. If you are planning to purchase a wooden table and chairs, try to find one that matches any wood already in the room. For instance if your cabinets are whitewashed, then a whitewashed table will complement your overall theme much better than one made from a darker wood type. Be sure to also choose a kitchen dining set that is comfortable and not too formal. Formal dining sets are best left in the dining room. Your table and chairs in this room should be comfortable, informal and invite warmth.

Your chairs should reflect your personality, while still adding charm and style to your overall theme. Kitchen furniture can make all the difference in whether guests and family members feel warmth and love emanating from this room, which is what most people strive for when they are decorating the one room where they spend so much time cooking and baking for the ones they love.
